I honestly expected Modern Warfare 2 to pick up some flak in some countries with the inclusion of the airport scene but I have to admit that I didn’t see a ban in Russia coming.
But apparently the Russian authorities are not impressed with the senseless massacring of civilians by Russian militia and have decided to recall all copies of MW2 until the issue is resolved. Infinity Ward have already released a patch to remove the scene from the PC version and expect the console versions to receive that very same patch in the coming days.
Somehow I think they had this patch ready anyway knowing that someone would complain.
In related news, MW2 isn’t doing so well in Russia. Apparently national pride stops people buying games where your country get’s its ass kicked. Though to be fair the Americans didn’t fair that well in the game either.

Can you really blame them? It’s a western produced videogame featuring Russia (yet again)in a bad light. If it’s not some Arab nation or China, the Russian Bear is always typecast as the villain. Sure you can blame the cold war for all of this, but it’s all so clichéd, that’s why I like to dust off Redneck Rampage every once in a while, at least you’re shooting, front teeth lacking, mullet sporting Eemeericcaanss.
I wish there was a game where I could play as an Arab terrorist. I mean if I can play as a prostitute-killing, car-hijacking, cop-shooting criminal, why can’t I be an Arab terrorist in a game? Just imagine the premise, you’re Achmed or whatever, and the reason you hate the US is <insert the usual tear jerking story, involving a stray smart bomb, or maybe you're just an expat who have seen the horrors of Western imperialism, and now armed with a battle plan you seek revenge…)

i think you missed the point where the west are the good guys, and everyone else in the world has to harbour ‘the great american resentment’.

Hardly suprising that it gets banned in Russia. The problem is you may as well replace the Russians with Arabs in that scene. There is always this pervasive undertone in American cinema, media, entertainment about the ‘other’ attacking there freedom. While it may just be a game, it still entrenches popular ideologies with a complete lack of the understanding of real world current affairs. Apologies if anyone finds this offensive.
