 I received a tip last week from a regular reader about a local cheater in our midst, but seeing that I didn’t want to falsely accuse anyone I asked for bit more information on the guy and subsequently missed the chance of naming him before he was caught.
I guess it’s a credit to Microsoft that they picked up Deathtr1p’s blatant cheating in only a couple of days and have reset his once impressive gamerscore back to 0. His previous gamerscore was 134820 and the local guys picked him out as a cheater as he managed to scoop 30 000 points in a single day while not being online.
What was even stupider on his behalf is that he was unlocking some achievements without unlocking the required build up achievements. For example he apparently had completed Rock Band on expert but he didn’t have it on Hard yet.. all hard achievements unlock when you complete on expert. He also had completed Skate but ever got the achievement for completing training. But his coup de grâce was that he managed to unlock an achievement for Brothers in Arms that is only available to be unlocked on the 17th of September this year… proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Deathtr1p is a complete and utter idiot. Has anyone else spotted a gamerscore cheat recently, do you care if people cheat to get a higher gamerscore? |

who cares! it has no impact on other players, and if you need a good gamerscore to get cred, then you not really a gamer.
hacks though do impact on other players though, but i’m not aware of that, definitely not as much as on the pc side of things.

The standard way of cheating is to download save games which have been saved just prior to unlocking an achievement. You then load up the game, get your Mile High achievement and take some credit away from people who managed to get it legally.
Is it worth anything? No.. that’s what makes it even sadder that people cheat.

haha ye sound like it was done more for the attention than anything else. The explanation doesn’t explain the 17th of September achievement though cos surely no save game would have this. Been looking on the net and it appears there are other glitches that can be exploited. Ah well, achievement unlocked: Deathr1p RIP

With a little program called Xbox360 saves. Not many moons ago you could buy this program at Incredible corruption… I mean connection for R300. The idea was actaully to save your games on your PC that you have finnished on your once small 64mb memory card.
Guess people got away around changing the save file so that it resembles your Xbox Id and gives you the achievements.
Dont know why people would want to cheat their achievements anyways.. Beats the whole point on playing the game then lol

I never did understand the point of a gamerscore. Is it to track how “finished” a game is? if so, a lot of games fail there. Is it an esteem thing? Doesn’t make sense there, either. Can you buy anything with it? Not AFAIK. I call mcguffin on the whole concept!

Its just to give a game a longer life span really… Many guys i know wont buy another game until they get atleast 800GS before getting a new game

That longer lifespan idea doesn’t hold true for all games, though. Consider Oblivion, for example: you run out of achievement points long before running out of game to play. And then at the other end of the scale is Gears. Those “Seriously” achievements are…well, “ridiculous” comes to mind, but there are other words I might use to describe them as well–like “gimmick” or “artificial game extender”. Just sayin.

I can confirm what flamer posted Prodigy petemac is a cheat just check out his Gears 1 score, he’s got the achievement for completing all acts on hardcore but he hasn’t got the achievements for completing act 1 or act 2 on hardcore.

I’ve just been having a look through some more of Prodigy petemac’s achievements and noticed that somehow he’s managed to unlock the achievement for getting all the collectables in GOW 2 but he hasn’t got the one for collecting 20 (pack rat). Man this guy is dumb!

i know Prodigy petemac he told me its all good and that microsoft will not stop him from doing it
its not only his gamer score he cheats at he will glitch any chance he gets in a game it got so bad i had to take him off my friends list as he always did it to me on GOW 2

I hate to break it to him but Microsoft will stop him as soon as they find out… If you suspect someone of cheating then when you see them online, lodge a complaint by selecting their gamertag and clicking the File Complaint button.
Microsoft will review and action accordingly, looking through his Gears Achievements he does appear to have cheated somewhere, but not enough to get noticed yet I would say
