Well this is a suprise, the latest NPD sales stats are in and they are much lower than expected.
As always the Wii did very well and was the only console to be in line with predictions by selling 714,200 units in April….
The Xbox 360 retook second spot, but only just, with sales of 188,000 compared to the 187,100 units sold for the PS3.
I think it’s worth stopping and looking at those numbers, 188 000 to 714 200…. It’s not even a competition anymore…
Nintendo also did very well in the handheld department selling 414,800 units compared to the 192,700 units sold for the PSP.
Nintendo has become a monster and it really is suprising that they are still not getting the games and media attention of the 360 and PS3… Face it people, the Wii and DS can no longer be called a fad. They are the only truly next gen consoles according to the sales figures.

Something seems very wrong with those figures.
According to VGChartz the PS3 sold 221,000 units for the week ending May 10th and the XboX sold 170,000 for the same period.
Now that’s well after the GTA4 release and it’s only for 1 week. So how is it possible that they sold less in the entire month of April?

Those VGCHartz stats are worldwide numbers, NPD is just for North America.

You’re damn right its not a competition! Am I the only one who doesn’t even class the Wii alongside the PS3 and the Xbox? Someone oughta make it illegal to even call the Wii a next-gen console.
Xbox sold 188k units, PS3 sold 187k… In other news, remote-controlled fire-engines sold 400k units with Lego and Nintendo dominating the market.

Are these numbers only for April? I ask this because GTA was released on the 29th, so if it is only for April these are only 2 days worth of sales.

Yes only for april but the idea was that everyone was going to getting one on day one of the release and blah blah blah…
May will show us a better trend though but I still say it’s disappointing

I love the sneaky japs at Nintendo stock piling the Wii before hand and flooding it just as GTA4 gets released. They don’t only make a great little console but they use there heads. :mrgreen:
