Forza 3 Physics Fail – Balancing Act?

Forza 3 Physics Fail Balancing Act? forzafail Lazygamer

Ah, physics. They are all the rage with the hip kids these days you know.

Almost every game you play these days has some sort of physics engine running to ensure maximum lawnmower-man-realism *cough* in all of your videogaming experiences. Thing is, physics seem like they are still quite a far way away from being just right and this video clip from Forza 3 proves it quite nicely.

Turn 10 have been happy to boast about their advanced physics systems that run behind the scenes in Forza 3 but it seems like that very same system has it’s moment of complete fail as well. You won’t see something like this very often but it can still happen.

Video after the jump.

Okay see seriously – now you guys are missing the plot. The Forza 3 review was fair, but now to post drivel like this makes no sense. I agree 100% that when you roll the car, it looks like there is a spring below it which makes the flip look odd.

However, this is not what Forza 3 physics is about. That has to do with traction, power:weight ratios, breaking pressure etc etc. How the car handles when you corner, break etc.

You are losing your credibility when you base an entire physics engine on one single aspect.

    easy

damage actually falls under physics, and flipping a car usually involves damage… well the last time i crashed a car, physics had a lot to do with my front axles shifting half a metre backwards.

and as nick said, its a fun article.

get gt5 if you want a proper racing game…!
btw thats a joke if you didn’t pick it up

Aww Come one Dareno, any video of a car doing a nose stand is fun to look at. I’m not saying the whole physics engine is based on this.

I wanted to actually add, I think a lot of what actually happened here is down to the fact that once you flip, Turn 10 decided to let you control the direction of your flip using your steering if you want to get back onto your wheels, rather than reseting you or having to just press a single button. That explains that funny spin the car does at the end before landing on it’s wheels.

Look I get what you are saying, but read what you’ve written. Your article basically states that FM3’s physics is crap. Now, sorry but that’s not correct – the physics engine is brilliant and the best on the racing game market.

However, once you crash – they basically didn’t do much to it. And that the ‘Spring’ effect is very evident. Anyway – let me edit your article :)

Ah, physics. They are all the rage with the hip kids these days you know.

Almost every game you play these days has some sort of physics engine running to ensure maximum lawnmower-man-realism *cough* in all of your videogaming experiences. However, a recent bit of racing in FM3 resulted in me questioning a certain area of the FM3 physics engine. First off, the engine is pure brilliance. But crash…and what happens?

There is a clear ’spring’ effect being used to flip your car, but not only that it seems in some instances you might just find your car on Mars – or perhaps some other outlandish planet.

Turn 10 have been happy to boast about their advanced physics systems that run behind the scenes in Forza 3 but it seems like that very same system has it’s moment of complete fail as well. You won’t see something like this very often but it can still happen.

Sigh…I wonder if the Forza vs GT debate would be as fiery if they were both cross platform? Would people FINALLY get over it or if it would morph into the racing world’s PES vs FIFA??

I really don’t think there is a need for you to defend your forza 3 review or say something bad about the game.

Normally I don’t argue about silly review scores and such, but I must say that a review is just not someone’s personal opinion. People that provide games reviews are professionals and as such the aim would be to provide an objective comment.

Let’s say, a big website gets 12 000 hits for a review, which turns out to be negative. Multiply this figure maybe by 4 websites each with 12 000 hits for that specific review(similar negative score). That is 48 000 potential buyers who may not buy that game because of the review score it received. I fail to see how people can claim that reviews are just opinion pieces, because your core function (what you get paid for) is to provide an unbiased objective comment.

The reason why I am bringing this up is because I have seen some poorly written reviews in recent times. Lets take the Uncharted 2 review from IGN. The reviewer wastes too much time on the bad aspects of the game mechanic and often goes back to it over and over again. Yet it gets a 9.5. I would expect a lower score to match the tone of the review. What I am suggesting is that the score should reflect the tone of the review.

Disclaimer: this logic does not apply to fanboys.
