EA banked quite heavily on the Wii. With the magic of hindsight, this can generally be accepted as a “bad idea,” considering the system still only seems to be generating games sales revenue based on first-party titles. EA head John Riccitiello is rather unhappy with the situation, one that’s undoubtedly contributed to the company’s reported losses
"To be honest with you, I think the Wii platform has been a little weaker than we had certainly anticipated," he said. "And there is no lack of frustration to be doing that at precisely the time where we have the strongest third-party share."
“Wii is where we are missing it and so I really do think that the opportunity exists to find different ways to partner with first party in this case to sort of help establish in the minds of the consumer legitimacy of some of these other brands when they are going out multiplatform because very, very few multiplatform titles are succeeding on the Wii."
On reason for that is possibly because when compared to their HD counterparts, Wii games look absolutely crap. That and your average Wii consumer doesn’t actually buy games, they just play Wii Sports and Wii Fit.
If EA is looking to increase its Wii Performance I can probably help; I have a spam filter full of e-mails promising to do just that.
