PSP Go games average size – We seem to have some confusion? | |

The PSP Go is available for all to see at rAge at the moment and is obviously a pretty big draw card for the gadget lovers amongst us.
Howard Lonstein, our local SK rep, has been on hand to explain all the goodness that is the PSP Go and has also announced that it will be available from Monday morning for R3500 from most major retailers.
The big question for everyone in bandwidth starved South Africa is how big are these download only titles.
According to Howard the average title will be an awesome 50Mb with the bigger games like GTA going up to around 250Mb.
Unfortunately Al De Leon, PR Manager for Sony Computer Entertainment America, has a different view and has previously stated his much publicised view that the average size of a PSPGo downloadable game will be between 600-800Mb and no upper limit has yet been announced.
I guess the only way to be sure is to pick up a PSPGo and start downloading some games… If you have one already please let me know what size the games are?

I just picked up my PSPGo last night and I was looking through the PSN Network and discovered that the download size varies starting in the “What’s new” box Gran Tourismo has a download capacity of 937 MB while God of War: Chains of Olympus is 1.29 GB and Resistance: Retribution is 1.4GB!

Awesome thanks for the update.
Have you tried any of the new PSP Mini’s yet? I think they are all around 100Mb in size.

Three and a half GRAND for a PSPgo? Surely that is pricing themselves out of the market with a DS going for about half that, and a 360 Elite being R3700?
Sigh, its almost twice as expensive to buy a PSPgo here than it is in the states too.

Can you download all those games with a regular PSP? If so, why buy the PSP go?

SK should have ‘let go’ of Howard a long time ago. He does more damage to the PS3 brand than the Lazygamer site!!

About that game size-
1GB is insane.
In south-africa it will cost you R300 for the download size alone! so games have to be free cuz if it cost R200-R300 a game (and i doubt i will be that cheap) it total to over R500 rand a game! That is what i call insane

yea – I bought one on my way out the country for work… got it at 2.7k, not so impressed at the game prices – and then after paying 400-500 for the game, you still have to download – so the time delay, bandwidth issues etc. plus I am sitting in Madagascar at the moment where the bandwidth is flaky… so when it breaks… try download again… and again… and again… :-(
I do however like the size of the thing, so maybe if I ever manage to get something decent downloaded to the damn thing my idea will change – but so far, it looks to me like cutting the UMD drive out was a really bad idea…
that is of course unless they plan on mirroring the entire PSN store in SA, or maybe intelligently proxying these things… but somehow I dont see that happening…
