So shortly after announcing it is releasing an 80Gb model in Korea Sony has come out and announced that it is also going to be offering Video-on-Demand to the South Koreans…
It seems that after being neglected by Sony for months Korea has suddenly become the PS3 capital of the world…
There are no plans announced for this VOD service to be rolled out world wide but I think that it is quite an obvious conclusion…
It has a lot of ground to make up against the Xbox’s US version but if it does release VOD to our market it would make the PS3 a very appealing product indeed…
Knowing that the biggest movie distributor in SA also distributes the PS3 helps as well…. Video stores may not be happy with this news though.

Not true, I know quite a few people who are currently downloading all the major tv series from illegal sites. If someone could offer a legal way to rent movies from the net I would use it. Once our local bandwidth is uncapped that is :)

Yeah and those downloads are from LOCAL torrent sites for which people buy 30GB of data for R70. Now if Sony or MS proivide LOCAL servers from which we can download such data then it shouldnt be a problem now would it?
And take into consideration how long will a 4GB movie take to download on a pesky 384kbs ADSL line. A whole evening? Would that be worth it? Nope. Rather go to a LAN and copy such series from somebody who has them as it has always been.
