Gran Turismo 5 – Crash damage… fail | |

So yesterday Nick posted about that video with the weird physics problems in Forza 3 where you could put your car into a handstand even my daughter would be proud of.
And as we know every time we mention Forza then GT needs to butt in, Kanye West style, and what an entrance they have made.
The video after the break is a classic example of why you cannot tack on crash damage at the end of a development cycle. The damage being done to the Ferrari in this video is so laughably bad that you can only hope with everything you have that this isn’t indicative of the final release.
Not to mention that water barriers which look more like polystyrene and the completely unrealistic movement of the car after it smashes into the barriers.
But everyone is just going to point out the fact that it’s still in development and therefore it’s wrong to complain about it. So I tell you what, if the crash damage is this bad after the game is released it will lose an entire review point… is that fair?
Or can we forgive its failings since the crash damage isn’t what makes the game Gran Turismo?

That is terrible! Hopefully they can fix it, but somehow I doubt they will be able too. You are right that GT is not all about damage, but every other racing game has it incorporated into there games. Both good and bad variants.
One thing I have realized about GT is it brings out the worst in fanboys from both sides. You just have to mention that you think game A is good but you prefer game b, and the personal insults start flying.
I wish i had the time to play all of them.

Unfortunately the real news story about MW2 is stealing the thunder from the flamebait :(
But pointing out an obvious failing in response to the story yesterday seems fair. That crash damage is unacceptable in my book

thats to be expected, the mw2 story is pretty hectic!
as for gt5 ‘damage’, i agree whole heartedly its not up to par with expectations, but will wait for the full release before passing judgement.

I just hope that if you hit a wall going that fast, your car must be written off, race over.

I like the dmg like that if there was a setting to turn of realistic dmg. Sometimes you dont wanne redo a mission because you crashed into 1 thing

Meh, the damage model in Forza looks equally as cr4p. The truth is, neither game has a REALISTIC damage model. Its nice for the Forza guys to have SOMETHING to point out as being superior in their game, but at the end of the day, GT will still trump all contenders, just as it always has.

Does Forza 3 have G25 support yet? Quite frankly when I’m playing racing games, I try keep on the track.

Okay so the original damage was not a placeholder but after the horrific reaction they received from Gamescom they have decided to go back to the drawing board and implement a new one.
However Kaz himself still states that the game will never be able to portray any serious accidents but it will be better than what it has.
So the damage will always be token damage, thanks GTPlanet for that info
Seriously I think you are a bit blinded to this game here, it has some awesome capabilities but the crash damage isn’t one of them. Rather lets focus on it’s weather and race physics..

If they are redoing the damage, does that mean the game will make still make its March release date?

March is only confirmed for japan
For the rest of the world probably June or December
There is no way Sony will launch God of war 3 and GT5 on the same month???

Yeah, but I want my game in March. It better not be delayed or else….I will cry.

It’s funny how Grand Theft Auto has better crash models than all Forzas and GT’s combined.
