People have been waiting for a proper “next gen” Final Fantasy game for ages. Well it’s out – in Japan at least – and is obviously expected to be a behemoth at retail. Square-Enix have released sales figures after the game’s first 24 hours at retail – and it looks like those expectations are well founded.
On just its first day on sale in the land of the rising sun, Final Fantasy XIII has sold in excess of 1 million copies – one one platform, in one country – the first time a PS3 game has sold over a million on day one in Japan. The figure doesn’t include copies moved with the “Lightning Edition” Final Fantasy branded PS3 bundle.
With an attach rate of 1 in every 4 Japanese PS3 owners – one in every 120 citizens - picking the game up at ¥8300 (R691) a copy, both Square-Enix and Sony can’t help but be happy.
