When Infinity Ward confirmed the lack of dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2, many gamers flew in to fits of nerd-rage, threatening boycott, crying and generally being quite emo. Others saw Infinity Ward’s locking down of the game as a challenge.
Well, the enterprising others have prevailed, as they’ve managed to hack in a dev console allowing them to set up, yes – dedicated servers. What comes as quite a slap to Infinity Ward’s face is that these dedicated servers are still considered legal on IWNet, meaning players can still earn XP and rank up. As an added kick to the nuts, these “dedicated servers” allow for cheats, as evidenced by the video after the jump.
As far as we can tell, the 9v9 player limit is still in place, but at least you’ve now got functional dedicated servers. Baby steps.

I can understand the techincal achievement and the fact that these guys have managed to put egg on IWNet’s face, however seeing these guys play makes me understand why one would HATE to play in that arena, for instance no-one like a n00b tube, and these guys are firing them without limit. the chances of you staying alive long enough to go around and kill someone is now less and less. It completely defeats the point of the game, it actually looks like they’re playing Halo with grave jumps… this for me is lame and I would hate to be caught in a server like this or with anyone able to do this in one of my games. I have a hard enough time trying to stay alive long enough with Jimmy in a game.

Haha its coming back in IW’s face. They didn’t want dedicated servers because its safer this way, and its actually not considering the host can do anything they like.
This is obviously not how the game is supposed to be played unless for a little fun. However all of this stuff is written into the code. Funny how IW don’t code dedicated servers in the front end, but they are actually their. Bastards.

Im sure us Console gamers have a much better experience of MW2 and the first for than matters, as the PC owners and the loads of cheaters on there servers.
