When the announcement was made that Final Fantasy XIII – once exclusive to the PS3 – was going to make its way to the rival X360 platform, the gaming world was put in to a state of shock.

Now that the first Final Fantasy for this generation of consoles is finally available, lets see if the game itself manages the same effect – or if 13 is indeed an unlucky number.

Borderlands : The Secret Armory of General Knoxx Reviewed Header Lazygamer Borderlands, the RPG loot-a-thon shooter from Gearbox and 2K has been pretty well supported with post-release content. The first, the Zombie Island of Dr Ned was an exercise in how to do self-contained episodic content right. The second, Mad Moxxie’s underdome riot was a less-than awesome arena mode.

Let’s take a look at the latest add-on for the game, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and see if it’s worth your money.

Heavy Rain Review When It Rains It Pours header Lazygamer

Heavy Rain has finally arrived and after many months of discussions over visuals, a controversial control scheme and Quantic Dreams’ ability to deliver solid titles, we finally got to see what all the buzz was about.

By now most of you know that Heavy Rain is not your traditional videogame. Some have had trouble calling it a videogame at all while others believe that it’s the next step in interactive story telling.

We put on our raincoats, opened our umbrellas and ventured forth into the storm to bring you the full review, after the jump.

[Please note: As Heavy Rain is entirely story driven, we have ensured that the review remains 100% spoiler free]

BioShock 2 Reviewed : The Seaweed is Always Greener

BioShock 2 Reviewed : The Seaweed is Always Greener bioshock2banner1 Lazygamer

The first BioShock was a masterpiece – a story expertly crafted, punctuated by the objectivist philosophies of Ayn Rand. Its twisted, tortured dystopian under-sea setting was unique and interesting, its art-deco visuals – although ruinous – rich and sumptuous, and above all, its narrative compelling.

Many gamers – such as myself -  felt a sequel to be unwarranted – that the game was complete and that a sequel would feel unnecessary, diminishing the impact of our first foray into Rapture. We were worried that a sequel, made by a different developer, wouldn’t be able to capture the spirit of its forebear, and wouldn’t be able to deliver nearly as moving an experience. We were also wrong.

Vancouver 2010 Reviewed – Stop, Collaborate and Listen. VancouverHeader Lazygamer

Here in sunny South Africa we’re generally a sports-mad bunch. Many a Saturday afternoon is whiled away, sat around a screen, with beer and biltong consumed in disproportionate amounts. Where we falter in our enthusiasm is with regards to winter sports.

This is, of course, mostly due to geography – but it’s hard to get excited when we, unlike Jamaica, don’t even have a bobsleigh team. The 2010 winter Olympics begin this Friday in Vancouver, and as with most such events it comes with its own videogame. Let’s take a look and see if Vancouver 2010 holds the gold at the podium, or crashes headfirst into the icy snow below.

Mass Effect 2 Review To Boldly Go To A Galaxy Far, Far Away.... MassEffect2header Lazygamer

Every now and then, a videogame comes along that changes everything that you thought you knew about gaming. A game so epic, so magnificent, so deep and so emotional that you are blown back in the realization that a new era of gaming is upon us.

Unfortunately, we didn’t receive a review copy of Karaoke Revolution, so we opted to review Mass Effect 2 instead.

Darksiders PS3 Reviewed – No Tom Hanks, These Are Angels And Demons

Vigil Studios, created by the immensely talented comic artist Joe Madureira takes it’s first baby steps into the world of gaming with Darksiders.

Darksiders puts you into the very awesome shoes of one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Which one? Well, War of course. You arrive prematurely at what you think is the end of the world party and things go belly up from there.

Dark Void Review – I’m Leeeeaaaaaving On A Jet Pack

Dark Void Review Im Leeeeaaaaaving On A Jet Pack DarkVoidHeader Lazygamer

So, the Bermuda Triangle wasn’t a myth all along.

Dark Void enters the gaming world as a combination of third person shooter with a difference and a strange type of action flight simulator. If you have ever wanted to know what it feels like to strap on a jet pack and zoom off into the skies then Dark Void is the game for that.

The question is, does it all work well when it’s put into a videogame? Find out, full review after the jump.

Bayonetta Review TNT with TnA BayonettaHeader Lazygamer

I will not lie, Bayonetta is one crazy-ass witch with a bad attitude and way too many weapons available to her.

Fans of Japanese third person action massacre games have been keeping a keen eye out for Bayonetta over the last couple of months and Nu Metro was kind enough to supply us with a review copy so that we could see what all the fuss is about.

Borderlands : Mad Moxxie’s Underdome Riot Reviewed Header Lazygamer

One of most gamers’ gripes with the otherwise excellent Borderlands is that despite its open endedness it’s just a bit too easy. Just a little over a month since the last DLC for the game, Gearbox is here to change that – and in that regard they’ve succeeded pretty damned well.

Unlike “The Zombie of Dr. Ned,” this latest DLC isn’t an episodic bit of narrative, but instead is presented as a set of three arenas where you’ll fight wave after wave after incessant wave of enemies.

James Camerons Avatar Lazygamer Review Bullets, Bows and Blue People AvatarHeader Lazygamer

James Cameron has once again proven his worth by rocketing yet another one of his flicks up to the top grossing movie of all time. This is quite impressive considering that he managed to do it by knocking off another one of his own films (sinking ship, iceberg, yeah that one.

That’s great and all but I just realised that I’m not Barry Ronge (phew) and this website is about gaming, so let’s get onto the videogame side of things.

Avatar, like many other blockbusters, come standard these days with a videogame adaptation.

To the dismay of my wife, I rubbed blue colouring all over my body, tied a dishcloth around my waste and started plugging my mustache into various objects just to see if I could form a bond with them, all in the name of bringing you a review.

I put some pot plants around the couch and headed for Pandora, see how the game stacks up after the jump.

DJ Hero Review Playstation 3 Waahing Wickys And Scratching Some Yo Yos Heading Lazygamer

Are you tired of jamming chords? Had enough of painful guitar solos? Well then why not wah some wickys?

DJ Hero enters the rhythm/music game fray as the latest attempt from Activision to cater to those who taste for music is not quite in the rock/metal genre but falls more to the sweet sounds of sampled mixes and thumping beats.

Does it break it down, or just break down?

1 Minute Madness Review Tornado Outbreak Playstation 3 TornadoOutbreakHeader Lazygamer

We haven’t had a 1 minute madness review in a while but it returns this week with the a look at Tornado Outbreak for the Playstation 3.

Targeted more towards the younger crowd, Tornado Outbreak is a game born out of the Katamari formula and has you playing as a, err, I’m going to go with Tornado elemental, tearing down levels to achieve objectives and trying to finish levels in a set amount of time.

More after the break.

Assassin’s Creed II Review – Bellissimo Or Boring?

Nick de Bruyne - November 27th, 2009 at 12:45 pm - 1977 Views - 14 Comments

The first Assassin’s Creed was released just on around two years ago, generating insanely high levels of hype and excitement. Problem is, that once gamers actually got their hands on the game, they quickly grew tired of the repetitive mission structure and overall lack of things to do.

Now the time has come for a sequel and Ubisoft Montreal are trying to right the wrongs of their past offering, claiming to have listened to the fans and changed what needs changing.

Just so happens, that I get to be the judge of that. Was the series doomed to fail from the start or does the sequel bring breathe new life into the franchise.

Dragon Age: Origins Review – PC – She Turned Into A Huge Spider!

Welcome to the world of Dragon Age: Origins, where you will experience yet another epic RPG from the makers of Mass Effect, Neverwinter Nights and Jade Empire, to name but a few.

Dragon Age is an “epic party-based fantasy role-playing game, dense with story and tactical combat”, where you will come across men, elves, dwarfs, demons, walking corpses and cuddly goat-like creatures to mention but a few. The world is in great danger, because a mage messed with the powers that be, and very bad things are let loose on the world.

The Bioware team sure knows how to tell a story, and this one is riddled with humour, drama, passion and a bit of crazy to say the least. Which part will you play in this epic adventure?
