Sony Signs up All Six Major Studios for PSN HD Movie Service Videostore Lazygamer

Do you live in a country with cheap, fast, uncapped internet? Is that country called The United States of America? If so, Sony has something rather nice for you. Sony have just announced that they’ve managed to sign up every one of the six major Studios to provide downloadable HD films – straight to your PS3.

This is quite a coup, as Sony is the first company to ever do so.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Servers Die, Reset Stats And More

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Servers Die, Reset Stats And More tankcrash Lazygamer

[Update: Since the time of writing, EA has updated us on their blog with details about the server issues, what they are doing about it and who is effected. You can read all about it here .]

Battlefield Bad Company 2 released this week for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and has had a couple of hiccups over its launch weekend.

The online multiplayer servers went down on a few occasions during the weekend, not only leaving gamers without multiplayer, but in certain instances even resetting stats and unlocks back to zero/nothing and didn’t allow some players to gain experience points (this happened to a friend of ours who was playing in our game, so it’s first hand).

Flamebait Friday Debate – Xbox Live vs PSN

Nick de Bruyne - March 5th, 2010 at 12:15 pm - 373 Views - 40 Comments

Flamebait Friday Debate Xbox Live vs PSN FFD Lazygamer

It’s Friday, which means that everyone should be happy and excited for a weekend full of relaxation, activities and of course, gaming.

In the spirit of our old Flamebait Friday posts and everyones newfound weekend energy, we thought it would be fun to set up a post for people to debate, exchange opinions and make their opinions heard. Our comments threads can sometimes get heated, so we have created a post where anything goes and your comments dictate the pace.

To kick things off, I thought I’d start with something nice and cliche – the age old debate of Xbox Live vs PSN. PSN’s free, Xbox Live has parties and private chats, but which one do you think is better and why?

Let’s hear it.

Say Goodbye To Unsynched Trophies

Say Goodbye To Unsynched Trophies trophyLove Lazygamer

Uh oh. The Playstation 3 bug has come right, but it looks like there are still some issues that have been caused as a result.

Dutch gaming website PS3-Sense are reporting that there are some problems regarding unsynched trophies. Any trophies that were not synched before March 1st are apparently gone. That’s right, gone forever – well, until you go and get them again.

Who’s up for a second playthrough of Heavy Rain? Yeah, I thought so.

Playstations Stop Working – It Becomes The The ApocalyPS3

Playstations Stop Working It Becomes The The ApocalyPS3 ApocalyPS3 Lazygamer

[Update: At the time of writing, the good news had not yet arrived. The world is safe once more. Well, maybe not with that guy in the video still on the loose.]

So, as you are all aware, it’s the end of the Playstation 3 gaming world as we know it. Some people are calm, while other gamers have just gone bat-shit crazy.

Zombies are running amok, aliens have landed, Godzilla and King Kong are having an oil wrestling match in New York City and Tokyo simultaneously, Hannah Montana has just been named the first female American president and thumb twiddling has just become a recognised Olympic sport.

A lot of you PS3 gamers out there are angry, but some are angrier than others and if puppies have to die in place of noobs, then so be it.

You really have to see the dude in this video rant, it’s really, and I mean really special. He is really angry that he can’t pwn n00bs and he isn’t going down without a fight… and some cupcakes.

Video after the jump.

[Thanks Dawid for the tip]

It’s Alive! Playstation 3 Issue Resolved

Nick de Bruyne - March 2nd, 2010 at 2:07 am - 264 Views - 7 Comments

Its Alive! Playstation 3 Issue Resolved itsalive Lazygamer

News of Playstation 3’s coming back to life is rolling in as I type these words, it looks like Sony made good on their promise to sort out the issue as fast as possible. Well, either that or the internal date/clock problem automatically sorted itself out, which is probably the case as offline players would not have come right.

I couldn’t personally verify the fix because my PS3 cupcake eater (80GB) was one of the models that didn’t have the issue, so mine has been running without issue. Thanks to the power of Twitter though, there are comments coming in from all over the world, with everyone relieved that they can finally play their games again.

It is now safe to turn your Playstation 3’s on again. Go forth and pwn noobs people, the power is back in your hands.

Check Out Some New Uncharted 2 DLC Gameplay FloodedRuins Lazygamer

Gametrailers have just uploaded this sweet gameplay footage of the new Uncharted 2 multiplayer DLC map called Flooded Ruins. Also included in the pack is another map called Facility, new trophies and medals, as well as all your favorite folks’ skins.

The map is based on environments from Drake’s Fortune and anyone who played the first game will instantly recognise the area, although looking a lot less peachy than before. If you are a fan of Uncharted 2’s multiplayer than make sure you download the new pack.

It’s already available and will set your back R45.00. Video after the jump.

God of War

It’s less than a month before Kratos rises up but if that is just to long to handle then this is good news for you.

According to SCEE that GoW 3 demo that was available to a few PSN users last October is no being released to the masses and is available now directly from the PSN.

The demo is no light weight coming in at 2.6Gb and it is from E3 last year, but if you are a God of War fan you know you are going to be getting it anyway.

Darksiders Demo

Vigil Games has announced that we will finally be getting a Darksiders demo on both next gen platforms on the 25th of February.

I don’t personally like the idea of a demo only being released after the game has hit the shelves but I guess that it’s better than no demo at all.

Public Service Announcement: PSN Going Down Today PSNDown Lazygamer

Hear ye! Hear Ye! Were you planning to zip your Assegai against your mates across Vineta K this evening? Were you intent on a a little Uncharted 2 multiplayer? Were you keen on kicking the ass of the opposing Helghast squad?

Well it may have to wait a bit – the PSN blog has confirmed that the PSN will be down this evening, taking along all associated services. This includes PlayStation Store, Account Management on all PS products (PS3, PSP, Media Go) as well as Playstation forums, blogs and other websites.

The PSN will be down from about 18:00, and resume at about 19:30 – giving you time to enjoy things like your family, dinner, and the evening news. Perhaps when it comes back up you’ll have the often-rumoured, much fabled cross-game chat. But probably not.

Playstation 3 Gets New Invite System

Playstation 3 Gets New Invite System PSNinvite Lazygamer

Users of the PSN will be pleased to hear that Sony has integrated a new system to invite multiple people into a game on the Playstation 3.

The new system uses the chatroom function and basically allows all the people in the chat room to be invited to a game. At the moment – and honestly one of Sony’s biggest problems right now – is that the only games supported are Bioshock 2, the AvP demo and Call of Duty Classic.

Aliens vs Predator Multiplayer Demo Today! AvPchess Lazygamer

Firstly, if you haven’t already read my hands-on preview of Aliens vs Predator, then go and do that right now.

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of the Aliens vs Predator games, and the biggest reason for that has always been the incredibly fun multiplayer modes. The great news is that a multiplayer demo hits today for pretty much everything. So no matter if you prefer a PC, PS3 or Xbox 360 the demo will be available on Steam, PSN and Xbox Live.

Sony talks up charging for PSN – They are now actively looking at it

Sony talks up charging for PSN – They are now actively looking at it ItOnlyDoesEverything thumb Lazygamer

I used to be 100% certain that Sony would never charge for multiplayer gaming over the PSN as that is still one of the major features they have over the Xbox 360. In reality I couldn’t care less as my Gold subscription isn’t much and it only annoys me once a year when it expires.

However back to the point, I am no longer 100% convinced that Sony won’t introduce a small charge for online gaming. The latest salvo on the subject has come from Sony’s Peter Dille who claims

“I can confirm that [charging for PSN] as well. That’s something that we’re actively thinking about”

Sony Reality Show “The Tester” on PSN this Month

Geoff - February 2nd, 2010 at 2:30 pm - 567 Views - 2 Comments

Sony Reality Show “The Tester” on PSN this Month thetester thumb Lazygamer

Somebody at Sony has obviously been hitting the electric Kool-aid, because they thought this was a good idea. Starting on February 18th, you’ll be able to download weekly episodes of “The Tester,” a new reality TV series from the PSN.

The show will feature real life gamers competing for one of the most dull, draining and wholly unfulfilling jobs in the videogame industry – that of the Q&A tester. A staple of childhood gamer fantasies, the job of the tester is far, very far removed from the fun and glamour perceived by the prepubescent mind. It is, I suppose, an interesting way to occupy a vacancy that could easily have been filled by throwing a cheeseburger at a vagrant.

click the header picture to embiggen – It’s Penny Arcade’s take on the show.

If you’re somehow interested, you can find a trailer after the jump. Reality TV…not quite my thing.
